Happy Birthday, Sesame Street!

Sesame Street premiered on November 10, 1969 and is the longest running children's program on television in the US. In honor of the show's 40th anniversary, Tuesday's episode (the season premier) will feature a visit to the White House vegetable garden with First Lady Michelle Obama.

Weezer Snuggie

I am loving this. I'm a Slanket owner myself, but everybody knows that the Snuggie has the better (and cheesier) ads. Weezer has been around since I was a teenager and has always been known for making unique and funny videos.

Fanboys and Fangirls

Since I know more than a few of you out there fit this description, I thought I'd do the public service of posting this on my blog. I just received this email from MTV:

Treehouse of Horror

Besides the candy and the costumes, my favorite Halloween tradition has always been the annual Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror" episodes. The show will air "Treehouse of Horror XIX" this Sunday. November 2nd. Want to know what distinguishes a "Treehouse of Horror" episode from a normal episode of The Simpsons? Here are some distinguishing characteristics (I have thought of some on my own, and have gotten some help from this Wikipedia entry):

The Hills are Alive...

The newest celebrity-turned-author is Lauren Conrad.

The Guinness Book

Today on the reference desk, a patron asked a question that required us to use the Guinness Book of World Records. I realized that I hadn't looked at one in years and I'd forgotten how much I love it! Naturally, after spending about ten minutes looking through it, my first thought was "I should blog about this..." So, here we go:

Kid Nation

The new reality show Kid Nation is set to premier on CBS in a few weeks. The premise? Put 40 kids in an abandoned town for 40 days and see if they can build a functioning society with no adult supervision. It is kind of Frontier House meets Lord of the Flies.

Dishwasher

Bye-Bye Bob Barker

Maybe it's just me, but I've had a mild obsession with The Price is Right since I was a child. It was a tradition that when we were home during the summer, my brother and I watched it every...

Best Week Ever

My favorite things about this week (in no particular order):

Golden Globes

1113Borat-Victims-ON-autosized158.jpgThe Golden Globes were on last night and although I didn't end up watching them (I Love New York was on- cut me some slack!) I did notice that Sacha Baron Cohen won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy.

Librarians in the Movies

minilibrarian.jpgTNT is showing a movie called The Librarian tonight and of course, I'm going to watch it. Not because I think Noah Wyle is a cool guy, but because there are so few movies about librarians that I feel obligated.

Are You In or Are You Out?

projectrunwaydvd2.jpg Is anybody else out there as big of a Bravo junkie as I am? If so, I thought I'd point out that the library now has both seasons of Project Runway in our collection.

Austin Power

austin.jpg Do you ever notice that PBS sometimes rocks? This is due to their weekly broadcasts of Austin City Limits, a show which features a variety of live performances by independent rock bands.

Abracadabra

galloway-gregory-book-060323.jpg In honor of magician David Blaine's latest stunt, which he is performing this week in Times Square, I'm (sort of) devoting this post to magic.

Diggin' on DVDs

70sShow.jpg Did you know that the library has DVDs? The AV department is located on the lower level and is giving your neighborhood rental chain a run for it's money. In addition to buying all the usual "library" stuff (eg. PBS specials, kids' movies, educational things), we buy fun things too!
