Banjo Bonanza
Have you ever seen a movie that has remained with you through the years due to its music? The magnificence of the movie Deliverance emanates from its story, scenery and its remarkable instrumental song Dueling Banjos. Banjo music has never been the same since that 1972 film.
If you appreciate this type of music, be sure to come to the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts on Sunday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. to hear swing banjoist Cynthia Sayer and her group Sparks Fly Band.
Ms. Sayer is considered to be one of the top 4-string banjoists in the world today. She has played in Woody Allen's jazz band for more than ten years and is an acclaimed bandleader, soloist and singer. Her performing interests include swing, hot jazz, tango, western, and classical music. She has worked with such jazz luminaries as Wynton Marsalis, Marian McPartland, Dick Hyman and Wycliffe Gordon, as well as the elite of bluegrass/roots/country artists, like Tony Trischka, Bill Keith, Andy Statman, Eric Weissberg, Mike Marshall and Odetta,
Beside taking part in a PBS documentary on the banjo, she was recently inducted into the National Banjo Hall of Fame.
