Fairfield County Chorale

Posted by MargieF on Monday, Nov 28, 2011 - 4:44 PM

How does a choral group promote the first concert of the season? If you are the Fairfield County Chorale,  you choose a fantasy-themed concert that showcases the composer's imagination, encourages the guest conductor to try new, unique ideas, recognizes the holidays, and demonstrates the beauty of the ensemble.

The program, which includes Ludwig van Beethoven's Elegiac Song, Choral Fantasy and Robert Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's Faust Part III, will be led by Eugene Sirotkine, a graduate of the Glinka Choir College, a recipient of a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the St. Petersburg Conservatory and first prize winner at the Riga Latvia International Conducting Competition.

After emigrating to the U. S. in 1989, he supplemented his training with advanced studies in Organ Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory and in Orchestral Conducting at the Mannes College of Music.  He has served as Assistant Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera for nine years, has been Assistant Chorus Master for the Hudson Valley Singers in Dobbs Ferry, NY and was Acting Music Director and Conductor of the LSU Opera from  2008-2009.  His international collaborations have been with South Africa's Cape Philharmonic and Cape Town Opera, Brazil's Orquestra Nacional Sinfonica and England's Glyndebourne Opera Festival.

This concert will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Norwalk Concert Hall.  Just as we strive to buy at local stores, we should try to support our homegrown musical talents.
