Stephanie Pintoff’s In the Shadow of Gotham is NOT a Batman story.

Is this man behind the murder, or is someone else copying his signatures?

In the Shadow of Gotham won an Edgar for Best First Novel and was compared in several reviews to the books of Caleb Carr.  In fact, Publishers Weekly said it would put readers in mind of Carr “at his best.”
