History Detectives

untitled.bmp
History Detectives is a PBS television series devoted to exploring the complexities of historical mysteries, searching out the facts, myths and conundrums that connect local folklore, family legends and interesting objects.

CPTV carries this program and two of the July episodes are set in the Nutmeg State.

On July 17 at 9 p.m. visit the Wesleyan University Library and find out how a book owned by legendary anarchist Lucy Parsons made its way into the collection despite the commonly held belief that all of the books in her personal collection -- which were deemed subversive -- were supposedly seized and destroyed by police after her death.

On July 23rd at 9 p.m. the investigation is set right here in Westport and also involves a book, this one being an autograph book belonging to Nora Holt, a luminary of the Harlem Renaissance. It contains the signatures of Presidents Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge. What was the link between Holt and these two men?

Tune in and find out!
