McManus Room
The fourth in TEAM Westport's series on Race and Politics is an open forum on the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor for a seat on the Supreme Court. Harold Bailey Jr., TEAM Westport chair, says “If you have a point of view on this, we want to hear it. We hope everyone in the community takes the time to come to the Library and make his or her opinion known.” TEAM Westport is the town's official committee on multiculturalism and diversity. For further information, e-mail TEAM Westport directly at info@teamwestport.org.
Items about the Supreme Court in the Library catalog.

I think you have the date or day wrong. June 30th is a Tuesday, not a Monday

Nice to see her record of trashing white folks in court opinions in favor of the "richness" of a Hispanic life. What we really need is an office of propaganda, to which I give her my unequivocal support. Even a top notch education (like her's)only facilitated "correct political thinking" but nothing near equal opportunity as a person of European descent would think of it. This type of equality is really the disabling of our civilization in favor of something which makes no apologies for it's hostility to the best culture on earth (overall).
Probably the start of a distinguished career dismantling Western European achievements in favor a a Zimbawawe type social structure.

suggest a new title...
am somwhat 'turned off' by title using absolute language...either or... of...good nomination or bad?
for what, for whom?
based on what issues and in what context?
liberal vs conservative, person of color vs white...good vs bad?
right vs wrong?
abortion rights, immigration, affirmative action, death penalty
to do justice to the importance of the issue and the discussion perhaps frame it more to be relavent and clear from a multicultural perspective..if that is your intent...
just good or bad...creates false choices of for or against rather than a deeper understanding and reflection on the issues you wish to raise and explore ..again from a diversity or multicultural context. as sponsors of the vent...what do you mean by good vs bad, what are you trying to generate by framing it that way...
why not be upfron and straigtforward and state..
was she chosen because she is hispanic and a woman
is that approrpiate
or for her more 'liberal' judiial views
or to change the court...while I am interested in the subject and have views I would not attend...because of the context created with the title...I don't want to be a part of contribute to or experience more polarization ....
right wing vs left wing, right vs wrong,
good vs bad,
I want a discussion exploring the issues in a civil open minded share and learn from each other, I don't believe that is set up by your title without further clrification...
and what is multiculturism and diversity
what does this group mean by that...simply discussing a nominee who is not a white male? what is your purpose in exploring this in this way...just to have something to talk about, I am sure you have some intentions and views and contexts and perspectives...state them up front
