MAKER: Mike Ogrinz on His "Lost in Space" B9 Robot and Other Famous Robots

Wednesday, Aug 1, 2012 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Mike Ogrinz and robotWhen Mike Ogrinz is not pushing around electrons for his "day job," he enjoys restoring old arcade and pinball machines and working with his hands. As stress-relief while writing his book Mashup Patterns a few years ago, he decided to build a copy of the robot from the classic TV show, "Lost in Space".

Mike located and joined the B9 Robot Builder's Club, an online group over over 400 members who are dedicated to building replicas of the Robot from the "Lost in Space" TV show. The club provides building tips, links to suppliers, technical support, and replica parts.

Mike will be demonstrating his replica, detailing certain aspects of its construction (and compromises!), and the Robot will likely have a few choice comments for the audience as well.

Ogrinz is a director at a financial institution, where his focus includes the areas of code reuse, usability, collaboration, and mashups. He is also the founder of localendar.com, an online calendar resource for webmasters running community sites.
