Nursing Home Checklist
Print out this eight-page checklist and fill one out for each nursing home you are considering. It's a good way to organize information that indicates nursing home quality that you can use for comparison between different facilities. The "Useful Tips" in each section are particularly helpful.
Nursing Home Compare
Search the Health Care Financing Administration's National Nursing Home Database. Enter the zip code or state to get a list of nursing homes located there. You'll also get some basic information about each nursing home and the results of the most recent state inspection. You can get the telephone numbers for the Long Term Care Ombudsman, the State Survey Agency, and the State Health Insurance Assistance Program for any state by clicking on the "Phone Directory" tab at the top of the page.
