As the Staples Players "eased on down the road" in the hit musical The Wiz, you and your family may want to relive that experience by listening to the compact disc, singing along to the lyrics, or watching the movie. The Wiz, a modern African-American rock version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and launched the careers of actors Stephanie Mills, Ted Ross, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Hinton Battle.
After seeing The Wiz, you may want to see a related musical, Wicked: the Untold Stories of the Witches of Oz based on the novel by Gregory Maguire. Feel free to preview it by familiarizing yourself with the vocal score and compact disc. Wicked won three Tony Awards including Best Actress in a Musical for Idina Menzel.
