ClipNotes: Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler’s Wife has been a favorite of the many book clubs that use the Westport Library to borrow the books they read. The movie based on the debut novel by Audrey Niffenegger will be released next month and stars Eric Bana as Henry De Tamble, a Chicago librarian who finds himself unable to control his not entirely welcome ability to time travel. Rachel McAdams is his wife Clare, a character who serves as an anchor throughout the book. While it is difficult to judge a book by its cover or a movie by its website or the bits released as trailers, it looks like this adaptation is strong on the love relationship between the main characters. Since I enjoyed the book, the casting is a great relief. So often the actors cast are just not how I pictured the characters. Eric Bana who is wonderful in everything he does is exactly how I imagined Henry would look and Rachel McAdams who can portray an assertive innocence is a terrific choice.

Enjoy films based on recent books? Not surprisingly, the Westport Library collection is strong on these. Staff suggests Girl With a Pearl Earring, The Kite Runner, and for the whole family Coraline and Inkheart. Our very own MovieLine will show The Soloist on August 11th at 7:00 in the McManus Room. I hope to see you there.
