It's a bit late, but I just read an AP article talking about one of the library's former Booked for the Evening honorees - Martin Scorsese. Mr. Scorsese is slated to direct a "biopic" on the life of Frank Sinatra. According to recent gossip postings family is pleased with the choice of the renowned director as Mandalay Film's choice although daughter Tina would rather that the seedier side of her father's life not be a focus of the film and is pushing for Geoge Clooney. The screenwriter, Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams) has immersed himself in Sinatra's history and life. The big question is who will play the iconic entertainer? Whispers of Leonardo were also in the blogosphere. Naturally this brings two questions to mind. Can he sing and can he dance? Let's not forget there are other key roles, particularly if any of the other "Rat Pack" will be portrayed.
Frank Sinatra was more than just a early heartthrob. He was of man of many talents and appeared in 58 films where his acting, singing and even hoofing abilities were displayed. In additon to numerous gold records and other awards, he also won a Best Supporting Oscar for his role in From Here to Eternity. And of course, numerous biographies have chronicled his off the stage dramas as well.
If you are a fan of "musical biopics" the library collection offers a nice selection. Of recent vintage are Walk the Line out Johnny Cash, La Vie en Rose about Edith Piaf and Ray about Ray Charles. Other movies include La Bamba about Richie Valens and The Buddy Holly Story.
