Taming the College Process

stress.jpgAlthough this isn't an official Library program, I thought it was worth bringing to your attention. The organization Positive Directions is going to be offering a four-session workshop called "Taming the College Process” for parents of 9th through 11th grade students next month. Details are as follows:

This workshop is intended to address what has become a community-wide issue affecting our children, our families, our friendships, our schools and our guidance counselors. We will explore the professional literature on the effects of the stress on our children relating to the college process and what we can do to tame our own anxieties so we can enable the independence and self-esteem our children need to become healthy adults.

The NUMBER 1 RULE of this group: Leave college names, standardized test scores, class schedules and college road trip planners at the door. Join us in this unique opportunity to explore why we are “Stressed out about our kids Getting IN!”

The course will be led by Positive Directions Counselors and Parent Connect Facilitators, Leslie Rogers, LCSW and Susan Raphael, LMFT. They have “been there” 7 times and bring perspective and insight that can sometimes escape us while we are in the thick of “it.”

The course will meet on Tuesdays, March 17, 24, 31 and April 7th from 10:00 am to 11:45 am. Registration is limited and the fee will be $195. (Scholarships are offered and requests are confidential)

For more information or to register securely online, visit our website at www.positivedirections.org or call Positive Directions at 203-227-7644, ext 132.
