Where The Wild Things Are

The Where The Wild Things Are trailer was FINALLY released today! This was one of my favorite books as a child and the film is getting the true indie-rockstar treatment: directed by Spike Jonze , written by Dave Eggers, with a soundtrack featuring music by Arcade Fire and Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. It seems like it as taken FOREVER for the trailer to come out, after all the hype surrounding the film, and now I guess we have to wait until October for the actual release of the film...? :(

Blip.FM

blipfm.pngSince I'm always so excited to find the latest music sites on the internet, I will share my latest and most favorite discovery in a long time: Blip.FM. Blip is sort of like a Twitter for songs. It allows you to post a song, along with a short message about the track. You can subscribe to other user's feeds, just like Twitter, creating a sort of radio station of songs that you and your friends have selected. The greatest feature is that you can simply search for the songs on Blip's database: you don't actually need to upload the songs yourself. So, this also makes the site a great way to preview music before you go out and make a purchase! I'm addicted!

Hip-Hop and the Recession

lil_jon.jpgAfter reading all these articles lately about how the recession has affected all these different industries, even down to the fashion industry, it suddenly dawned on me: how will this affect hip-hop? When I think of hip-hop, I think of guys walking around in mega-bling and rapping about designer labels, which kind of seems insensitive at a time when 8% of the population is unemployed. Being the good librarian that I am, I thought to myself, "surely there must be an article about this." Sure enough, CNN covered this story last month, when they noticed that rappers showed up at the Grammys dressed more demurely:

"I don't see concrete stuff yet, you know, but I imagine you will see more rappers doing some less-gaudy things just because it would be out of step with the audience," said Touré, an author and television personality. "The audience is struggling and striving, and then you're like, 'Look at my four diamond iced-out chains.' "

Maybe Lil Jon will have to start liquidating his grills on Ebay?
