Guess what? It's time for Summer Reading!
As you can see from our awesome promo video, I watch a lot of ghost shows, especially the ones where guys call each other "dude" all the time (see Ghost Adventures). The Summer Reading theme is "Own the Night," which means that we will be focusing on the darker side of teen literature. Here are the details:
Register online, then stop by the Reference Desk to receive your free reading journal and a coupon for the Library Cafe.
Keep track of what you read in your reading journal. For every five books that you read, receive a coupon for the Library Cafe. Show your journal at the Reference Desk or email me the books you have read at jlewis [at] westportlibrary [dot] org
Read from our special Own the Night book list for a chance to earn prizes at the end of the summer. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will go to participants who read the most books off the list. Other books that fit with the theme will count as well- just show me the titles. I will count thrillers, dystopias, any book involving a ghost or outerworldly being (faeries, vampires, werewolves, etc.), or any book in which a character has to triumph over a distressing situation (this is where you can get creative). The book list is merely a suggestion; I'm interested to see how you interpret "Own the Night!"
Summer Reading officially begins Monday, July 2nd, but you can register now! I'm excited for another Summer Reading program with you!

So, I've read more books in the YALSA Best of the Best Reading Challenge. However, in re-reading the rules, I realized that I accidentally cheated:
Books must be read/listened to (both begun and finished) within the challenge time period. If you’ve already read/listened to a title, you must re-read/listen to it for it to count.
When I first reported on this project, I reported that I had already read five books. Well guess what? I read those before the contest started. Whoops. So, my countdowns have been five books off this whole time. It doesn't really matter, since I will definitely reach my goal of 25 books anyway. Here's what I read since my last check-in:read more
I've had a productive week with my Best of the Best Reading Challenge project. I'm very close to my 25 books, but I will probably keep going until the end of June to see how far I can get. This week, I'm up to 23!read more
I'm checking in on my Best of the Best Reading Challenge. I've been a little slow these past two weeks, so I'll need to pick up the pace to meet my June 30th deadline. Plus, I have to finish, now that this has been officially hyped on our Facebook page. I now have accountability to social media. Luckily, I'm very close. And guess what? The last two books I read rhymed! How exciting is that!? I'm easily amused...read more

I feel like it's been a long time since I've posted an animal video. We're just coming back from a holiday weekend, so instead of reading about books, let's check out this adorable baby otter learning how to swim!
I feel a bit redundant giving high ratings to almost everything, but there is probably a reason these books have all been labeled "best" by somebody.read more
